Don't they realize that thousands of kids from Northern Virginia attend college at Virginia Tech, VMA, Radford, JMA etc. There are only 1 or two buses on Friday returning Saturday so many drive 81 (not a good idea). Many of these kids would love to visit home by train and many parents would prefer not to drive to pick up and take home (8 hours each round trip), and would gladly pay for train tickets. Is Amtrack going to provide service to Blacksburg soon? On Jan 18, 2010, the VRE Commuter Rail Burke Centre Station became an Amtrak Station and began allowing stops there on the same date. Because Western Fairfax has one of the highest per capita incomes in the US, this train station is an emerging Regional Transit Station that will bring in many more new Amtrak riders and result in making the new train permanent faster, with the option of more service in the direction of Roanoke, Christiansburg, and Bristol.
